BAFTA/LA's Saturday afternoon tea party on the rooftop of L'Ermitage drew both Brit and American Emmy nominees. "A few years ago some members decided the T for TV in BAFTA was not recognized," said Neil Stiles, BAFTA/LA deputy chair and Variety topper. "There's tremendous talent in Britain. 'Downton Abbey' is English, but Midwest viewers don't know Archie Panjabi or Hugh Laurie are not Yankees. All they know is that they're good." Besides Panjabi and BBC America's Richard De Croce guests included Guy Pearce, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Wendie Malick, and cast members from "Modern Family" and "The Office." The cucumber finger sandwiches couldn't compete with Jeff Bridges and Ben Affleck, as the actors provided the most head-turning entrance at the BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills on Saturday. On an 80-degree day, a powder-keg's worth of star power and a bar full of gin made for an eventful gathering as the British Academy of Film and Television Arts held its annual awards-season event at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.Bridges and Affleck laughed and chatted as necks craned and servers in black ties passed by with silver trays filled with fish and chips in paper cones. Bridges' appearance was purely Nicole Kidman -- dressed in casual pants, with her long red hair swept neatly around her slender shoulders -- chatted with friends and studiously avoided the party photographers. |

By Greg HernandezOne of my favorite awards season events is the annual tea party thrown each year by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Los Angeles. This year’s event, held at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, was quite the star-studded soiree on Saturday scheduled nicely in between Friday’s Critics Choice Awards and today’s Golden Globe Awards.I worked the red carpet and chatted with Kathy Griffin, American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe, Melissa Leo, Guy Pearce, Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance , Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich, 127 Hours screenwriter Simon Beaufoy, songwriter Diane Warren, Kate Flannery of The | View Entire Blog | Comments (0) |

Ben Affleck joked around with his sunglasses-wearing costar from The Town, Jeremy Renner, yesterday afternoon at a BAFTA Los Angeles Tea Reception held in the the Four Seasons Hotel. The duo were fresh off a night spent at Friday's Critics' Choice Awards, where Ben spent a good chunk of the evening kissing and hugging his lovely wife Jennifer Garner. Michelle Williams was a lucky girl in the middle of a director sandwich, as she chatted with Blue Valentine's Derek Cianfrance and The King's Speech's Tom Hooper. Andrew Garfield got lots of love from his Spider-Man leading lady Emma Stone at the | View Entire Blog | Comments (0) |

BAFTA LA’s Britannia Awards is a fun night of Anglophilic pleasure, especially when wry wit Stephen Fry plays host. He likes doing the Britannias because there are only five awards, which keeps the proceedings short, he says. Otherwise 80 percent of the nominees are disappointed, getting drunk in the bar. The Britannias managed to nail down backing from TV Guide Network and three major studios for last week’s event. They supplied clip reels and various presenters from movies they could promote to the many Academy members among the BAFTA membership. Also, around Thanksgiving the whole BAFTA Awards nomination process gets under | View Entire Blog | Comments (0) |

In 2009, Ben Stiller gave one of the most memorable and hilarious tributes I've ever heard to recipient Robert De Niro that had the crowd, and De Niro, in hysterics. And that didn't even take into account Stephen Fry's witty and confident hosting or the impressive line of stars who appeared to honor the prestigious organizations winners.
